This water-free solution contains 0.2% pure Retinol, an ingredient that can reduce the appearances of fine lines, of photo damage and of general skin aging. While Retinol has been studied extensively, it is irritating to the skin and newer technologies exist that mimic the visible effects of Retinol without causing skin irritation. For this reason, we generally recommend using Granactive Retinoid 2% or Granactive Retinoid 5% instead of this formula.

The Ordinary Tip: Start with Retinol 0.2% in Squalane and slowly work your way up to Retinol 0.5% in Squalane and Retinol 1% in Squalane. That said, if you are prone to sensitivity, you may prefer to use newer retinoid technologies, such as those found in our Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion. Note: Once opened, this formula should be refrigerated and used within a three-month period.

Caution: Retinoids can make the skin more sensitive to UV radiation. Sun protection is particularly important when using retinoids. This product must not be used in conjunction with other retinoids including retinol or retinoic acid. This product is not a treatment for acne.

Note: When pregnant or breastfeeding, it is recommended to avoid any skincare products containing retinoids such as formulations with Granactive Retinoid or Retinol.

How to Use:
Use a small amount to your face after water-based serums but before heavier treatments. Do not use with other retinoid treatments, and protect your skin from sunlight. Store in a cool, dry place. Remember, retinoids increase skin sensitivity to UV radiation, so sun protection is important. Do not mix with other retinoids, including retinol or retinoic acid. Note that this product will not treat acne and that acne-prone skin may worsen temporarily when beginning use.

A powerhouse form of vitamin A, retinol encourages cell turnover, revealing healthier, softer skin while also tackling blemishes, dark spots and defying signs of ageing – including softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and uneven tone.

Directions
Apply a small amount to face in the PM as part of your skincare regimen, after water-based serums but before heavier treatments. Do not use with other retinoid treatments. Avoid unprotected solar exposure. Caution: Retinol can cause irritation, redness and peeling, especially around the eyes and mouth, in the early stages of treatment while skin builds tolerance. If persistent irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician. Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised. Keep out of reach of children. Refrigerate after opening.

Squalane is a saturated and stable hydrocarbon that is found naturally in the skin. It has very high emollience, is an exceptional hydrator and can prevent ongoing loss of hydration that impairs dermal suppleness. Squalane is non-comedogenic and is suitable for use on all skin types. It can also be applied to hair to increase heat protection, add shine and reduce breakage potential.

Shield your skin from harmful environmental aggressors with the EUK 134 Serum 0.1% from The Ordinary. A lightweight serum formulated with an extremely high concentration of EUK 134 – a self-regenerating molecule – the antioxidant-packed formula helps to neutralise harmful particles including smoke, pollution and UV light before they oxidise on the skin and cause damage and signs of ageing.

EUK-134 is a mimetic of superoxide dismutase and catalase, forming an exceptionally rare self-regenerating molecule that scavenges superoxide free radicals, eliminates hydrogen peroxide and converts reactive oxygen species into water and oxygen. While it has been around for many years, very few products on the market do use this truly superb antioxidant which can regenerate itself to offer round-the-clock antioxidant support. The only issue with EUK-134 is that it must not be used immediately with strong acids such as suspensions of Ascorbic Acid. Strong acids will completely destroy EUK-134 which is based on manganese. The low price of this formula does not reflect EUK-134’s extremely high potency. EUK-134 is by far one of the strongest antioxidants available. While EUK-134 itself is very costly, the suggested concentration in any formula is below 0.05% and most formulas do not use this maximum suggestion.

Our formula uses EUK-134 at an extremely high 0.1% concentration and we do not believe any product on the market today uses a higher concentration than this amount. This formula does not contain any water, silicones, oils or alcohol. Water can impair the stability of any antioxidant. The Ordinary’s antioxidant offering includes Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3%. If you wish to take advantage of both formulas, either use them at different times or apply each in a separate step since acids and EUK-134 should not be mixed together.
